Notes:
American soldiers stationed in Australia during World War II caused increased demand for circulating coinage which could not be met by the local Melbourne and Perth Mints. In 1942, 1943 and 1944 silver denominations were supplemented by coins struck by the Denver and San Francisco Mints, and in 1942 and 1943 the Bombay Mint in India was called upon to strike halfpennies and pennies. The Indian bronze issues were suitably marked to distinguish the production with an 'I' mint mark under the obverse portrait of George VI and a dot before and after the 'HALFPENNY' and 'PENNY' on the reverse. Proof restrikes were made unofficially and sold by the Calcutta Mint to collectors in May, 1965.
