Notes:
Controversially, the new obverse of Elizabeth II introduced in 1953 in the year of her coronation had no direct reference to her role as 'Defender of the Faith' in the legend, although a cross placed above the head of the Queen certainly alluded to a Christian based monarchy. The protests of religious leaders and politicians was heeded, and the acronym 'F : D' was added alongside the cross on the 1955 threepence and continued until the last threepence was struck in 1964. Like the 1937 Crown, which celebrated the coronation of George VI, the obverse stops on this date are diamond shaped. Twelve sets of specimen or proof Australian silver coins dated 1953, which included the threepence, were struck for the Chase Manhattan Money Museum.
